TROCAIRE 2020 AT CHRIST THE KING PARISH, SALTHILL…

22nd May 2020

This weekend with the blessings of the Irish Bishops Conference, we are asking you to return your Trócaire Lenten donation. I am sure you will all understand that, if it is difficult to manage COVID-19 in Ireland, it is even more difficult in countries where people do not have access to secure housing, healthcare or clean water.  Every year Trócaire asks for your help during Lent to fund lifesaving programmes around the world. As you know it has not been possible this year to return Trócaire boxes in the usual ways. I am appealing to you now to return your Trócaire Lenten donation. Simply count or estimate what is in your box and donate in one of the following ways:

1. Donate online at www.trocaire.org

2. Phone1850 408 408 (ROI) or 0800 912 1200 (NI)

3. Post to Trócaire, Maynooth, Co. Kildare (ROI) or Trócaire, 50 King Street, Belfast (NI)

4. **If it is possible and safe for people to return donations to your parish, please include the
relevant details here**

The contents of each and every Trócaire box, no matter how small, come together to make a significant difference. This virus knows no borders, but neither does our compassion.

Trócaire works with local and church partner organisations in over 20 countries to deliver humanitarian assistance and long-term support to communities.

Trócaire responds to humanitarian crises in countries where natural disaster or conflict has put people’s lives at risk. Long after the TV cameras have gone, we stay and support people to ‘build back better’ so that they are less vulnerable to future emergencies.

One in nine people do not have enough food and millions are denied access to land and a water supply. Governments are failing to protect these rights as increased demand for food, minerals and energy, coupled with large-scale industry, cause a scramble for land and water at the expense of the poor. Meanwhile, climate change is intensifying, causing devastating droughts and floods.

Floods, storms, droughts, famine and conflict are an inescapable part of daily life in the world’s most vulnerable regions. People living with poverty are always the worst impacted. Give them your support them this Lent.
